Nirooshun Rajendran is a highly specialised surgeon in the areas of complex colorectal cancer surgery and inflammatory bowel disease.
He is based at BHR in NE London and has a busy, high volume practice involving minimal access surgery (predominantly now using robotic surgery) as well as laparoscopic and open work for complex abdomens, recurrent colorectal cancers and locally advanced cancers. He completed a year working at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit prior to medical school (under Prof C Fowler and Lord Darzi). He completed a BSc(Hons) in Neuroscience and Clinical Physiology and then graduated with a MBBS from St George's University of London. He completed his basic surgical training at St George's Hospital and his MD(Res) looking at IgG4 based exclusion diets for IBD. Mr Rajendran completed his higher surgical training in the South West Thames and KSS region including laparoscopic surgery from the RSCH and Frimley and early exposure to robotic colorectal surgery in Frimley Park and later on fellowship in Melbourne. His first fellowship in colorectal surgical oncology extended his experience of pelvic exenterative surgery in the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia. Here he also gained valuable experience in cytoreduction and HIPEC as well as a large volume of rectal cancer surgery. He also obtained post CCT experience as an RSO at St Mark's with further exenteration experience and intestinal failure, followed by a fellowship at St Peter's Hospital prior to obtaining a consultant position. Since obtaining a consultant role, Mr Rajendran and our group have successfully set up a pelvic exenterative unit with input from urology, plastic surgery, gynae oncology, neurosurgery and radiology support from the St Mark's Complex Colorectal Cancer Unit). We have also led on the bid to acquire 2 Da Vinci Xi's with table motion. Mr Rajendran has also led on delivering a minimal-invasive pouch service with excellent results. He has subsequently become Lead for the service and represents the trust at the NE London Cancer Alliance both as the Lower GI Cancer Lead and Lead for Early Diagnostics Lead in Lower GI. |
